Design Literacy International Forum X: Design f(X)

We are excited to bring you the latest updates from the Design Literacy International Forum X, an exhibition that celebrates the creative works. From May 30 to 31 July 2023, this year’s exhibition showcases outstanding works that respond to the theme “Design for Excellence: Design f(x).” The event provides a platform for designers and educators to explore innovative ideas and push the boundaries of design.  All works have been through a double-blind peer review by external reviewers using Teresa Amabile’s ‘Gold’ standard creative assessment tool: CAT (Consensual Assessment Technique) to ensure the quality.  The work that receives the highest review score is awarded with the “Triangulum Award.” This year the award went to Dr. Krisaya Luenganantakul for her work: Transforming Waste Corrugated Paper to a Translucent Ceramic Bowl.  As part of its 10th anniversary, Design literacy forum has also initiated the International Collaboration by Invitation with Domus Academy, Milan Italy and Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK to send creative works to be exhibited.  Join us on a journey through the exhibits at Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design.

Design Literacy International Forum celebrates how the design discipline, in its short existence, has had profound effects on our lives. For almost a century, designers have sought to answer the question: what is good design? Today, we have come to understand that good design is designing toward a certain goal, hence there can be no universal solution. Instead, it is more about reaching for the best solution for each condition.

This resonates with the idea of “design for x,” which has been adopted in engineering design for decades with growing applications and guiding methodologies. To mark its 10th year of existence, Design Literacy Forum X invites academics and professionals to explore one’s own intentions and goals in design through the sharing of creative works that reflect how designing with a purpose can bring about new depths of life fulfillments by simply answering: What is your “x” in the function: Design f(x)? How can the “x” be achieved? And has it been achieved?
